Jolly Grant has a single terminal with one arrivals exit, where the chauffeur waits with a name board; the car park is across the forecourt. Rishikesh, Tapovan and the Taj Rishikesh side are about 21 km and 35 to 45 minutes north-east; Ananda in the Himalayas at Narendra Nagar about 35 km up the hill; Dehradun's Rajpur Road and Clock Tower about 25 km and 45 to 60 minutes west through Doiwala. Mussoorie is about 55 km and an hour and three quarters, the last 30 km on the winding hill road above Dehradun.

Dehradun is Uttarakhand's capital and an institutional town: the state secretariat and the Vidhan Sabha, the Forest Research Institute, the Survey of India, the military academy and the Doon schools, with a technology park on the Sahastradhara Road and a pharmaceutical and manufacturing belt at Selaqui and Haridwar. A corporate day-hire runs a Rajpur Road hotel to the secretariat and the IT Park, or out to a Selaqui plant. The Char Dham season from spring to autumn fills the airport with pilgrims heading to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, and the chauffeur runs the first leg to Rishikesh or as far as Guptkashi and Joshimath by arrangement.
