The coast road is straightforward in dry months; the north-east monsoon from October to December can flood stretches near the city, and the chauffeur adds time rather than risk. Within Tamil Nadu the pass-throughs are the ECR and highway tolls through FASTag; crossings into Andhra Pradesh or Puducherry, a Union Territory, are handled by the chauffeur at the post.
