Outstation chauffeur from Kolkata: intercity journeys and multi-day charters
Out of Kolkata the roads lead to Tagore country at Santiniketan, the terracotta temples of Bishnupur, the Sundarbans jetty at Godkhali and the ISKCON town of Mayapur. None is an expressway run, so the chauffeur plans by hours rather than kilometres and stays with you for the night halts.

Outstation in Kolkata
Santiniketan is about 160 km by road on NH19 and the Panagarh turn, a long day return or better an overnight when the Poush Mela fills the town in December; the state distance chart lists Bolpur further out by its own routing, so the chauffeur allows three to four hours each way. Bishnupur and its terracotta temples are about 150 km west on the Bankura road, another long day. The Sundarbans hire is different: the car runs about 100 km south-east to the Godkhali jetty, where the launch takes over, and the chauffeur either waits or returns for you at the end of the river stay.
The routes we drive from Kolkata
Mayapur is about 130 km north on the Hooghly, booked for the ISKCON temple and usually as a day return with an early start. Multi-day charters pair Santiniketan with Bishnupur through the Bankura and Birbhum countryside over two or three nights, or run north to Murshidabad for the nawabi palaces with a night in Berhampore. All of these stay inside West Bengal, so no state entry tax arises; what you see on the invoice are the NH19 tolls, settled by the chauffeur FASTag at cost. Push on into Odisha or Jharkhand and the border post adds that state tax, which the chauffeur again pays on the spot.
Permits, halts and the multi-day charter
Roads in Bengal reward an early start: the exit through Dankuni onto NH19 slows after eight, and the Bankura and Sundarbans roads are two-lane for much of their length, so the chauffeur drives them by daylight and plans the return before dusk. The monsoon from June to September slows the district roads and can close the Sundarbans launches; the coordinator checks before confirming a river date. Charters of more than a day are quoted with the kilometres per day, the chauffeur night halt and the return date spelt out; if the river or the roads change the plan, the coordinator re-confirms the quote in writing.

Questions
Outstation in Kolkata: frequently asked
Is Santiniketan a day trip from Kolkata?
It can be, at about 160 km by road and three to four hours each way, but it is better as an overnight, especially during the Poush Mela in December. The chauffeur stays near your hotel and the second morning covers the Visva-Bharati campus before the drive back.
How does a Sundarbans booking work?
The chauffeur drives about 100 km south-east to the Godkhali jetty, where your launch or resort boat takes over. The car either waits at Godkhali for a day trip or returns at the agreed time to collect you after a night or two on the river; both are quoted in writing.
Are there state taxes on Bengal routes?
Santiniketan, Bishnupur, the Sundarbans and Mayapur all sit inside West Bengal, so no state entry tax applies; the NH19 tolls go on the chauffeur FASTag and appear on the invoice at cost. Odisha or Jharkhand charters meet that state tax at the border, settled by the chauffeur.
Can Bishnupur and Santiniketan be combined?
Yes, as a two- or three-night charter through Bankura and Birbhum, with a night in Bishnupur for the terracotta temples and a night in Santiniketan. Where the chauffeur sleeps each night and how many kilometres a day are covered are both written into the quote before you leave.
