Salt Lake Sector V and New Town are 10 to 12 km by VIP Road and Biswa Bangla Sarani, about 25 to 35 minutes; the hotels on the EM Bypass (ITC Sonar, ITC Royal Bengal, JW Marriott) are 30 to 40 minutes; Park Street, Camac Street and the Oberoi Grand are about 17 km and 45 to 75 minutes depending on the hour.

Where a day in Kolkata actually goes
The old commercial city is Dalhousie, now BBD Bagh, where the banks, the High Court and the state secretariat at Nabanna across the river sit; Park Street and Camac Street hold the corporate offices and clubs; Salt Lake Sector V and New Town carry the technology and back-office campuses. A day-hire usually pairs a Park Street or Bypass hotel with Sector V meetings and a Dalhousie court or bank stop, and the chauffeur avoids the Bypass in the evening peak by cutting through Ballygunge. Hospital runs go to Apollo Gleneagles on the Bypass, AMRI Dhakuria and Tata Medical Center in New Town.

Day trips, festivals and occasions from Kolkata
Santiniketan and Bishnupur are long day returns on NH19 and the Bankura road, and the Sundarbans hire ends at the Godkhali jetty where the launch takes over. Durga Puja in September or October is the biggest week of the year: pandal-hopping runs are booked by the night, and the chauffeur knows which roads the police close after dark. The Book Fair at Central Park, Salt Lake, and the Film Festival at Nandan draw regular bookings. Rail passengers are met at Howrah Junction (HWH) across the river, at Sealdah (SDAH) for trains from the north and east, and at Kolkata Terminal at Chitpur (KOAA).
