Airport transfers in Kolkata
The integrated terminal makes the meeting simple: domestic or international, you emerge from the same arrivals exit and the chauffeur is there with your name, and the pick-up bay is a short walk across the forecourt. Until your bags are through the car sits in the airport car park; it rolls up to the bay as you come out, so there is no standing at the kerb among the taxi touts. The chauffeur watches the flight from the moment it leaves the origin, so an early arrival is met, not waited for. If you are met by colleagues as well, the chauffeur can take the luggage separately and meet the party at the hotel.
Routes and drive times from CCU
Two roads carry the airport traffic. VIP Road and Biswa Bangla Sarani run south-east to Salt Lake Sector V and New Town, about 10 to 12 km and 25 to 35 minutes, and on to the hotels on the EM Bypass, the ITC Sonar, ITC Royal Bengal and JW Marriott, in 30 to 40 minutes. The other route runs south-west through Belgachia and Shyambazar into the old city, delivering Park Street, Camac Street and the Oberoi Grand in about 17 km and 45 to 75 minutes depending on the hour. The chauffeur chooses between VIP Road and the Belgachia route on the day, because the two rarely jam at the same time.
Practical notes for CCU
Allow an hour and a quarter from Park Street for a departure in the evening and an hour from Sector V or the Bypass hotels; morning departures are quicker. Night arrivals are straightforward, with VIP Road clear after ten and the terminal working around the clock. A long delay that keeps the car in the airport car park shows up as the parking ticket on your invoice, at face value; the city roads themselves have no tolls. Departing, you are dropped at the departure level of the same building and the chauffeur walks the trolley to the door. During Durga Puja in September or October the city closes roads after dark, and the chauffeur builds that into any airport run booked that week.

Questions
Airport transfer in Kolkata: frequently asked
Is Kolkata a single-terminal airport?
Yes. Dum Dum has one integrated terminal that takes both domestic and international flights, which removes the usual which-terminal question: you clear your hall, walk out of the single arrivals exit, and the chauffeur is standing there with your name. The pick-up bay is a short walk across the forecourt.
How long is the run to Park Street?
About 17 km and 45 to 75 minutes depending on the hour, by VIP Road and the Bypass or through Belgachia and the old city. Salt Lake Sector V and New Town are much closer at 10 to 12 km and 25 to 35 minutes, and the EM Bypass hotels take 30 to 40 minutes.
Which hotels are quickest from the airport?
The EM Bypass belt, ITC Sonar, ITC Royal Bengal and the JW Marriott, at 30 to 40 minutes, and the New Town hotels in about half an hour. Park Street, the Oberoi Grand and Taj Bengal in Alipore are the long side of the city and need an hour or more in the evening.
Does Durga Puja affect airport transfers?
Yes, for a week in September or October the police close roads in the city after dark and the pandal crowds slow the rest. The chauffeur knows the closures and the timings, and airport runs booked that week are given extra time and routed round the pandals.
