Because the airfield is a defence station, the pick-up bay sits outside the terminal gate and photography around the perimeter is restricted; the chauffeur waits at the arrivals exit with a name board and walks you the short distance to the car. With the new terminal building open since July 2026 and airlines moving across from the old one through the summer, the meeting point is confirmed against your airline the evening before. Flights are tracked and the chauffeur is on stand before landing; waiting for a normal delay is included. Passengers heading straight to Jaisalmer or Osian are met the same way and leave the city by the bypass without a hotel stop, which keeps the desert run inside daylight.
Routes and drive times from JDH
The Umaid Bhawan Palace on Circuit House Road is about 4 km and 10 to 15 minutes; Taj Hari Mahal and Vivanta on the Residency Road side about 5 km; Jodhpur Junction and the Raika Bagh side about the same; RAAS and the old-city havelis under Mehrangarh about 8 km and 25 minutes, with the last stretch through the blue-city lanes on foot or in the hotel's own small vehicle. The Basni and Boranada industrial areas, where the furniture and handicraft export houses are, lie on the Pali road side of the airport and are reached without crossing the city; AIIMS Jodhpur at Basni is on the same side. Mandore Gardens are on the far northern edge.
Practical notes for JDH
No toll plaza sits between the airfield and the city. For departures 90 minutes before a domestic flight is enough from any city hotel because the distances are so short; the chauffeur drops at the new terminal's departures kerb and stays until you are inside the security gate. Night arrivals are met normally and the palace is ten minutes at that hour. October, when Jodhpur RIFF and the Marwar Festival fill Mehrangarh, and the wedding months from November to February are booked ahead. Luggage is confirmed at booking; buyers returning with samples get an MPV. The airport road also joins the Jaisalmer highway, so a desert transfer can start from the terminal.

Yes. The airport road joins the Jaisalmer highway on the western side of the city, and Jaisalmer is about 285 km by NH125 through Pokhran, five to six hours. Most passengers stop for lunch at Pokhran and reach the desert city by mid-afternoon, with the same chauffeur staying on.
