Airport transfers in Ahmedabad
International arrivals clear Terminal 2 and meet the chauffeur beside the arrivals exit with a name board; domestic passengers on IndiGo, Akasa or SpiceJet arrive at Terminal 1 next door, where the taxi and car-rental pick-up is at the arrivals exit gate, while Air India domestic now uses Terminal 2. Both terminals give a private car eight minutes free at the kerb, so the chauffeur keeps the car in the car park and calls it to the lane as you come through, never parked at the kerb. A complimentary inter-terminal shuttle runs around the clock from Lane 1 at each terminal, useful only if a connection has gone wrong. The flight is followed from take-off; land early and the car is already on its way to the lane.
Routes and drive times from AMD
Airport Road and the Hansol bridge take you into the city in minutes. Ashram Road and Navrangpura, the old commercial centre, are about 9 to 10 km and 20 to 30 minutes; the SG Highway hotel belt, the Hyatt Regency, Taj Skyline and Courtyard, is about 15 km and 30 to 40 minutes across the western side; GIFT City and The Leela Gandhinagar are about 15 km north by the Gandhinagar highway in about the same time. Ahmedabad Junction at Kalupur and Sabarmati are the nearest railheads for a passenger switching to a train. Sanand and the Bavla plants are 30 to 40 km south-west, reached by the SP Ring Road without crossing the centre.
Practical notes for AMD
Because the run is short the buffers are short too: forty-five minutes from Ashram Road, an hour from the SG Highway or GIFT City, more only during Uttarayan on 14 January and the Navratri nights in September or October when the city is on the roads late. Night arrivals from the Gulf are routine, with Airport Road clear after ten and the terminals working around the clock. There are no tolls between the airport and the city, and the kerb is free within the operator eight-minute window; and if a long delay runs up a car-park ticket it is added at face value. For departures the chauffeur drops you at the correct terminal, which since March 2026 means checking whether an Air India domestic ticket now says Terminal 2.
Terminal 2 handles all international flights plus Air India and Air India Express domestic (from 29 March 2026); Terminal 1 handles the other domestic airlines, with a shuttle between them. About 9 km north of the city centre, and about 15 km to GIFT City at Gandhinagar.

Questions
Airport transfer in Ahmedabad: frequently asked
Which terminal does my flight use at Ahmedabad?
Terminal 2 for every international flight and, from 29 March 2026, for all Air India and Air India Express domestic flights, which moved there while Terminal 1 is expanded. Terminal 1 handles the other domestic airlines. The chauffeur checks your ticket the night before and meets you at the right arrivals exit.
How long is the airport to city transfer?
About 9 to 10 km and 20 to 30 minutes to Ashram Road and Navrangpura, 30 to 40 minutes to the SG Highway hotels about 15 km west, and much the same to GIFT City about 15 km north. It is one of the shortest metro airport runs in India.
Where will the chauffeur meet me?
Beside the arrivals exit of your terminal, holding a name board. Eight minutes free at the kerb is the rule at both terminals, so the car stays in the car park until you appear and is then brought to the pick-up lane, never left where a charge or a tow would apply.
Is there a shuttle if I arrive at the wrong terminal?
Yes, a complimentary inter-terminal shuttle runs around the clock from Lane 1 outside each terminal. It should not be needed, because the chauffeur confirms the terminal against the ticket, but if an airline has moved you at short notice the car simply meets you at the other one.
