The terminal has one arrivals exit, and the chauffeur waits there with a name board; the pick-up bay is across the forecourt. The airport road runs north-east past Mohali IT City towards Zirakpur, then into Chandigarh on the Dakshin Marg: the JW Marriott in Sector 35 is about 11 km and 25 minutes, the Taj and the Hyatt Centric in Sector 17 about 14 km and 30 to 40 minutes, the Hyatt Regency in Industrial Area Phase 1 about 12 km, and The Lalit at the Rajiv Gandhi IT Park 22 km and about 30 minutes by the hotel's own figure. Chandigarh Junction is 6 km from the IT Park and on the Panchkula side of the city.
Routes and drive times from IXC
The Tricity means three administrations, and the chauffeur moves between Punjab, Haryana and the Union Territory without the passenger noticing: Mohali IT City and Phase 8B are on the airport side, Panchkula Sector 5 and its IT Park are across the Ghaggar in Haryana, and the Capitol Complex, the High Court and the secretariats sit at the top of Chandigarh. Passengers bound for the hills go the other way: the Kalka road leaves through Zirakpur and Panchkula, and Kalka itself, the foot of the narrow-gauge line to Shimla, is about 30 km from the airport. Hola Mohalla pilgrims for Anandpur Sahib head north on the Rupnagar road.
Practical notes for IXC
There is no toll between the airport and the three cities; terminal parking is paid by the chauffeur and itemised. Departures are forgiving because the roads are short: leave Sector 17 about 40 minutes before you want to be at the terminal, Panchkula about 50, the IT Park about 45, and Mohali IT City 20. Winter fog from December to January delays morning flights, and the chauffeur tracks the flight and adjusts the pick-up rather than leaving the passenger at the terminal early. The Rose Festival in February and IPL match days at Mullanpur from March to May put traffic on the airport road, and the office books those pick-ups with a wider margin.
