Guwahati's single terminal has one arrivals exit, and the chauffeur waits there with a name board; the pick-up bay is across the forecourt. NH27 runs east along the Brahmaputra through Jalukbari: the Radisson Blu on NH27 at Gotanagar is about 12 km and 25 to 30 minutes, Paltan Bazaar and the railway station about 22 km and 45 to 60 minutes, the GS Road hotels (Vivanta, Novotel) and Christian Basti about 25 km and 50 to 75 minutes, and Dispur and Six Mile about 28 km, which can take 90 minutes in the evening.

Where a day in Guwahati actually goes
Guwahati is the commercial and administrative hub of the north-east: the Assam secretariat at Janata Bhawan in Dispur, the corporate branches, banks and tea-trade offices along GS Road and in Fancy Bazaar, the oil and gas companies' regional offices, the Indian Institute of Technology at Amingaon across the river, and the tea auction centre. A day-hire for a government or tea-industry visitor is a GS Road hotel to Dispur and Fancy Bazaar; for a project visitor it is a run over the Saraighat bridge to Amingaon and the North Guwahati industrial area. Medical-travel runs go to GNRC at Six Mile and Dispur, Apollo Excelcare and Nemcare. The chauffeur carries the Inner Line Permit paperwork when a passenger is continuing to Arunachal or Nagaland.

Guwahati is the base for the region: Shillong and Umiam Lake are about 100 km and three hours up the Meghalaya road, Kaziranga about 200 km east on NH27 and usually an overnight with the chauffeur staying for the safari days, and Pobitora's rhinos a half-day. Sualkuchi silk and Hajo make a heritage morning on the north bank. Rongali Bihu in April and the Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya in June are the peak weeks, and the Brahmaputra Beach Festival in January fills the riverfront. Rail passengers are met at Guwahati station (GHY) beside Paltan Bazaar, at Kamakhya Junction (KYQ) for the trains that use the western station, and at New Guwahati (NGC).
