Mangaluru International Airport to the city
Mangaluru's single terminal has one arrivals exit for international and domestic, and the chauffeur waits there with a name board; many arrivals are Gulf flights with family luggage, and the chauffeur brings a trolley to the kerb. The Bajpe road descends to the city: the Vivanta on the Old Port Road and the Ocean Pearl at Kodialbail are about 15 km and 30 to 45 minutes, the Goldfinch at Bunts Hostel Road about the same, Kankanadi and Mangaluru Junction about 18 km, and Panambur and the port about 15 km by the Surathkal side.

Mangaluru's economy is the port and its industry, education and healthcare: the New Mangalore Port and the refinery, fertiliser and petrochemical plants at Panambur and Baikampady, the special economic zone, the engineering college at Surathkal, and the medical colleges and hospitals at Deralakatte, Kankanadi and Kadri. A day-hire for a port or refinery visitor is an Old Port Road hotel to Panambur with the car held at the gate; for a medical or education visitor it is a run south to Deralakatte and the Kankanadi hospitals. Medical-travel runs go to KMC Hospital at Ambedkar Circle, AJ Hospital at Kuntikana and Yenepoya at Deralakatte. The banking heritage of the city keeps regional bank head offices in the centre.
