How Chennai shapes a chauffeur booking
Chennai spreads south from the old city along two axes. The Old Mahabalipuram Road, the OMR, runs down the coast side through Taramani, Sholinganallur and Siruseri with the technology campuses and the newer hotels; the GST Road runs south-west past the airport at Meenambakkam to the Mahindra World City at Chengalpattu; and the highway west through Sriperumbudur and Oragadam holds the automotive plants that make Chennai the country's car-making capital. The older city, from Anna Salai and Nungambakkam to T. Nagar, Mylapore and Adyar, holds the banks, the consulates, the sabha halls and the ITC Grand Chola, the Taj Coromandel, the Leela Palace and the Park Hyatt. The East Coast Road runs south from Adyar past the Taj Fisherman's Cove to Mamallapuram and on to Puducherry.
The airport is close to the city by Indian standards, about 16 km from Nungambakkam by the GST Road and the Kathipara junction, and the domestic terminals and the international terminal sit side by side, so the coordinator confirms the terminal on the pickup message. The East Coast Road is the day out Chennai's visitors ask for first: Mamallapuram's shore temple and rock carvings are about 60 km south, an hour and a half with the toll at cost, and a day package covers the temples, lunch on the beach and the return. Puducherry is about 160 km down the same road, a long day or an overnight in the French quarter, priced as a charter day. Kanchipuram's temples and silk are about 70 km west, a half day. Tirupati is about 135 km north-west across the Andhra border for the temple, an early start and a charter day with the state permit handled. Chennai rewards an early start more than any other city on this site. The Marina before nine, the Mylapore temple streets before the heat, the plant belt gates by eight: a day that begins at seven does three things a day beginning at ten will not. Who drives, and what the fare buys
Every chauffeur on the Chennai roster holds a commercial licence and a Tamil Nadu transport badge, has cleared police verification and a background check, wears a uniform and speaks English, Tamil and Hindi. The vehicles carry commercial permits and insurance, are serviced on schedule and presented clean, and the registration is on the confirmation for checking against the Parivahan records. The fare is fixed before the journey from the published cards on the rates page: the executive sedan at $220 for the airport transfer, $190 an hour with a four-hour minimum and $1,400 for the eight-hour day on the international card, with the luxury, SUV, MPV and group classes scaling from it, GST added and the tolls at cost. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup, then stepped inside 72, 48 and 24 hours.
