The pink city holds the City Palace, the Hawa Mahal, the Jantar Mantar and the bazaars of Johari and Bapu, where the gem and jewellery houses trade; the roads are narrow and the chauffeur drops at the gates and waits outside. Amber Fort is about 11 km north of the old city and a morning with Jaigarh and Nahargarh above it, with the chauffeur waiting at the fort car park; Samode Palace is about 40 km for lunch; Ranthambore is about 180 km south-east for the tigers, a charter day each way with a night or two at the park; Pushkar and Ajmer are about 135 km west for a long day; the painted havelis of Shekhawati at Mandawa are about 170 km north for an overnight. The Golden Triangle runs to Agra, about 240 km east with Fatehpur Sikri on the way, and to Delhi, about 270 km north-east by the highway, each priced as a fixed city-to-city fare. Who drives, and what the fare buys
Every chauffeur on the Jaipur roster holds a commercial licence and a Rajasthan transport badge, has cleared police verification and a background check, wears a uniform and speaks English, Hindi and Rajasthani. The vehicles carry commercial permits and insurance, are serviced on schedule and presented clean, and the registration is on the confirmation for checking against the Parivahan records. The fare is fixed before the journey from the published cards on the rates page: the executive sedan at $220 for the airport transfer, $190 an hour with a four-hour minimum and $1,400 for the eight-hour day on the international card, with the luxury, SUV, MPV and group classes scaling from it, GST added and the tolls and the state road tax at cost. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup, then stepped inside 72, 48 and 24 hours.
Two weeks in the Jaipur year need to be booked well ahead rather than simply planned around. The literature festival in late January fills the city and its hotels, and the Pushkar camel fair in November draws visitors 145 kilometres west, taking cars off the Jaipur roster for days at a time. Both are worth attending; neither is worth arriving at without a confirmed vehicle. How long is the airport to the palace hotels?
About 12 km and thirty minutes to the Rambagh Palace and MI Road, about 15 km and thirty minutes to the Oberoi Rajvilas on the Goner Road, and about 35 km and an hour to the Fairmont and the Raffles at Kukas. The fare is fixed whatever the traffic does.
Can I book a chauffeur for the Golden Triangle?
