The present terminal at Gannavaram is a single building with one arrivals exit, and the chauffeur waits there with a name board; the larger integrated terminal beside it was still under construction at the time of writing, so the passenger is told which building is in use when the booking is confirmed. The NH16 carries the car into the city: Novotel Vijayawada Varun at Benz Circle is about 25 minutes, and Vivanta Vijayawada (the former Gateway Hotel) and Fortune Murali Park on MG Road are about 25 minutes and 20 km. Vijayawada Junction at Hanumanpet is 21 km from the airport and about 7 km from the Benz Circle hotels.

Where a day in Vijayawada actually goes
Vijayawada is the commercial capital of the Krishna delta and the gateway to the state government at Amaravati: the secretariat at Velagapudi is about 30 km across the river on the Guntur side, and a policy visitor's day-hire is an MG Road hotel to the secretariat and back for an afternoon of Benz Circle meetings. The Jawaharlal Nehru Autonagar estate on the eastern side of the city, established in 1966, is the automobile-body and components cluster, and Guntur, 35 km down the Guntur road, is the other business run. The chauffeur knows the Prakasam Barrage crossing, which carries the road to the Guntur side across the Krishna and slows at the evening peak.

Kanaka Durga temple on Indrakeeladri hill is the city's landmark and its biggest traffic event: Dasara in September or October brings lakhs of pilgrims and hill-road controls, and the Teppotsavam boat procession fills the river ghats on the final evening. Krishna Pushkaralu, the 12-yearly river festival centred on Vijayawada's ghats, last ran from 12 to 23 August 2016 and returns in August 2028. Leisure runs go to the Undavalli caves on the right bank of the Krishna, Kondapalli fort and its wooden-toy village about 25 km out, and Bhavani Island by the six-minute boat from Punnami Ghat; Amaravati's stupa and Dhyana Buddha make the longer day, and Machilipatnam on the coast is about 70 to 80 km. Rail passengers are met at Vijayawada Junction (BZA), the South Central Railway hub where the Howrah-Chennai and New Delhi-Chennai lines meet.
