Indore is the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh: the trading houses and cloth market sit in the old city around Rajwada and Siyaganj, the corporate offices and hotels line the AB Road from Vijay Nagar to Dewas Naka, the technology campuses sit on the Super Corridor, and the manufacturing is at Pithampur and the Sanwer Road estate. A day-hire for a pharma or auto visitor is a Vijay Nagar hotel to Pithampur return with two or three plant gates in between; for a distributor it is a morning in Siyaganj and an afternoon on the AB Road. Medical runs go to Bombay Hospital on the Ring Road and CHL Hospital on the AB Road, and the state-government meetings are in Bhopal, about 190 km east.

The Rangpanchami Ger in March and the Anant Chaturdashi procession in September close the old city and the chauffeur plans around them.
