Six days turns the Golden Triangle from an itinerary into a holiday. The monuments are the same ones; what changes is that no morning starts before you want it to, the Agra day has room for the marble workshops as well as the Taj, Abhaneri's stepwell goes on the Jaipur road, and Jaipur gets two full days instead of one and a half. The case for it

Who the six-day circuit is actually for

There is a particular kind of disappointment that comes from seeing the Taj Mahal at the end of a three-hour drive, with a train to catch. The six-day circuit exists to prevent it. The distances are identical to the shorter versions — about 800 kilometres in total — but they are spread across six days, so the longest single driving day is under five hours and most are under four.

Families notice the difference first. A four-hour leg with a five-year-old is a different proposition from the same leg with a lunch stop and no deadline at the far end, and the six-day schedule has room for both. Travellers with a mobility limit notice it second: Amber Fort, Fatehpur Sikri and Agra Fort all involve real walking on uneven stone, and doing one of them per day is far more comfortable than two.

The third group is the one that surprises people: photographers and repeat visitors. Two full days in Jaipur means Amber in the morning light and the City Palace in the afternoon, rather than a compromise between them, and an Agra day that includes Itimad-ud-Daulah and Mehtab Bagh rather than choosing one. The two stops the shorter circuits cannot fit

Six days adds one genuine new place and a great deal of unhurried time. Both are worth naming precisely.

Abhaneri — the Chand Baori stepwell

About 95 km from Jaipur on the Agra road, a ninth-century stepwell of some 3,500 steps descending thirteen storeys into the ground. It takes an hour, it sits almost exactly on the route, and most people who see it rank it with the headline monuments. Only the six-day circuit has room for it alongside Fatehpur Sikri.

A second Agra half-day

Itimad-ud-Daulah — the "baby Taj" — the marble inlay workshops where the craft the Taj made famous is still practised, and Mehtab Bagh across the river at sunset. The four and five-day versions pick one of these; six days takes all three at a walking pace.

Two full Jaipur days

Amber and Jaigarh in the morning light on one day; the City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal and the bazaars on the other, with time for a block-printing or blue-pottery workshop. Jaipur is the city that most rewards the extra day, and this is where it goes.

No day on this circuit is a driving day, and no morning has to start in the dark.

Day 2 — Delhi to Agra, about 233 km, 3 to 3.5 hours A civilised 08:30 departure. The afternoon is Agra Fort and the evening is Mehtab Bagh, with the Taj held for the next morning when the light is better and the crowd is thinner.
Day 3 — Agra, local No intercity leg. The Taj at opening, Itimad-ud-Daulah after lunch, the inlay workshops in the afternoon. Under 30 km all day.
Day 4 — Agra to Jaipur via Fatehpur Sikri and Abhaneri, about 240 km, 6 to 7 hours with both stops The longest day on the circuit, and still comfortable because the stops break it into three short drives rather than one long one.

On a four-day circuit the vehicle is transport. On a six-day circuit it is where a meaningful part of the holiday happens, and the class you choose is felt every day rather than occasionally. This is the length at which people who would normally book the executive sedan find the premium MPV's extra room worth having, and at which a party of six stops squeezing into two sedans and takes the Tempo Traveller.

What the transport package includes

Is six days too long for the Golden Triangle?

Not if you would rather see fewer things properly. The monuments are the same; what six days buys is morning light at Amber, a Taj visit at opening rather than mid-morning, Abhaneri, and no departure before half past eight.

What is Abhaneri and why does only this itinerary include it?

The Chand Baori stepwell, about 95 km from Jaipur on the Agra road — some 3,500 steps descending thirteen storeys. It needs an hour, and only the six-day circuit has room for it alongside Fatehpur Sikri on the same leg.

Is this version better with children?

Considerably. The longest drive is under five hours and it is broken by two stops; every other leg is under four. With a toddler or a grandparent, this is the version that gets enjoyed rather than endured.

Do we stay two nights in both Agra and Jaipur?

Two nights in Agra and two in Jaipur, with one in Delhi at the start. That is what lets day three and day five run with almost no driving at all.

Can we swap Abhaneri for something else?

Yes. Bharatpur's Keoladeo bird sanctuary sits on the same leg and suits birdwatchers better; Ranthambore can replace the second Jaipur day if a tiger matters more than the bazaars. The coordinator rebuilds the run sheet either way at no change to the charter-day rate.

Does a longer circuit cost more per day?

No. Every day is charged at the same published charter-day rate for the class you book, so six days is exactly six times the daily figure. There is no tour mark-up and no premium for length.
