The shape

What four days buys, and what it costs you

The four-day circuit works by moving the driving to the hours nobody wants to sightsee in. Day two leaves Delhi at six for Agra, which puts you at the Taj not long after it opens and well before the coaches. Day three leaves Agra mid-morning for Jaipur, arriving in time for the City Palace before it closes. Day four drives back to Delhi. Nothing about that is uncomfortable in a private car with a chauffeur who has driven the route a hundred times — but it is a schedule, and it holds.

What you give up is specific and worth naming. Fatehpur Sikri, which sits 37 km outside Agra on the Jaipur road, is a two-hour stop this version cannot absorb without arriving in Jaipur after dark. Amber Fort gets an afternoon rather than the better morning light. And Jaipur's bazaars get a walk-past rather than an hour. If any of those three matter to you, the five-day version is the one to book.

What you do not give up is the Taj at its best, Agra Fort, a Delhi day covering both the Mughal and the imperial city, Amber, the City Palace and Jantar Mantar. That is the circuit's headline list, complete, in four days.

The driving

Three legs, and what each one is actually like

The whole circuit is about 740 kilometres. Three legs carry almost all of it, and none of them is difficult in a chauffeured car.

Delhi to Agra — about 233 km, 3 to 3.5 hours The Yamuna Expressway, a six-lane toll road with almost no cross traffic and a service area at the halfway mark. In December and January morning fog can hold the start back an hour; the desk builds that buffer in rather than driving into it.
Agra to Jaipur — about 240 km, 4 to 4.5 hours National highway through Bharatpur and Dausa. This is the leg Fatehpur Sikri sits on, 37 km out of Agra, which the five and six-day versions stop at and this one drives past.
Jaipur to Delhi — about 270 km, 4.5 to 5 hours The Jaipur-Delhi highway through Shahpura and Manesar. Started before two in the afternoon it is straightforward; started after four it arrives in the Gurugram evening peak, which is why day four leaves after an early lunch.

Which vehicle class a four-day circuit wants

For two people with two suitcases, the executive sedan — a Mercedes-Benz E-Class or BMW 5 Series — is the right car and the one the price below is built on. It carries the luggage, it is comfortable for a four-hour leg, and it looks right at the hotels the circuit uses.

For a family of four, or three adults who want the boot space, the premium MPV (Toyota Innova Hycross or Kia Carnival) is the better buy and costs less per day than the sedan. For a party of six or more, the executive Tempo Traveller carries twelve with luggage. For a passenger who wants the flagship rear cabin on a long leg, the luxury sedan is the S-Class or 7 Series. Practicalities

The things that decide whether four days works

Check the day of the week before anything else. The Taj Mahal closes every Friday, so a four-day circuit that puts Agra on a Friday loses its reason for existing. The desk checks your dates against that first and shifts the direction of the circuit if it has to.

Check your flights. A four-day circuit that starts with a morning arrival at Delhi airport and ends with a late-evening departure gets four usable days; one that starts at four in the afternoon gets three and a half. Check who is travelling. Four days at this pace is fine for adults and older children. With a toddler, or with anyone who tires on a four-hour drive, the six-day version is not an upsell — it is the version that will actually be enjoyed.

What the transport package includes

The 4-day Golden Triangle: frequently asked

Is four days enough for the Golden Triangle?

It is enough for the headline monuments — the Taj, Agra Fort, Amber, the City Palace, and both halves of Delhi. It is not enough for Fatehpur Sikri, an unhurried Amber in morning light, or shopping in Jaipur. If those matter, book five or six days.

What time does day two start?

Six in the morning from the Delhi hotel, which puts you at the Taj shortly after it opens and well ahead of the tour coaches. In the December and January fog season the desk may hold the start back an hour and adjust the Agra afternoon rather than drive into it.

Can we do the circuit in the other direction?

Yes. Delhi to Jaipur to Agra to Delhi works just as well and is sometimes better for flight timings. The desk picks the direction after seeing your inbound and outbound flights.

Does the price change with the number of passengers?

No. The package is priced for the car, not per person, so four people in a premium MPV pay the same as two. What changes the price is the vehicle class you choose and the number of days.

What happens if a leg runs long and we arrive late?

Nothing costs extra. The charter day is ten hours and 300 km; a day that overruns is covered by the extra-hour and extra-kilometre rates on the card, which the coordinator tells you about before it happens rather than after.

Are the monument tickets included?

No — entry fees differ for Indian, SAARC and foreign visitors and change by notification, so we quote the current figures with the itinerary rather than bundling a stale number into the fare. The all-inclusive tier includes them.
