The shape

What the fifth day actually changes

The extra day does two specific things, and they are the two things the four-day circuit sacrifices. First, Delhi gets a whole day instead of an afternoon, which matters because Delhi is really two cities and half a day forces you to choose between them. You get Qutub Minar and Humayun's Tomb in the morning, Jama Masjid and Chandni Chowk after lunch, and the imperial avenues at the end of the day, without the feeling of being marched.

Second, Fatehpur Sikri goes on the itinerary. Akbar's abandoned capital sits 37 km from Agra on the Jaipur road, which means that on a five-day circuit it costs you two hours and no extra driving at all — the car is going that way regardless. It is the single best-value stop on the whole circuit, and the reason the five-day version is better value than the four despite the extra charter day.

The second night in Jaipur is the quiet third benefit. It turns Amber Fort from an afternoon scramble into a morning visit in the light that photographs properly, and it leaves an afternoon for the bazaars, a block-printing workshop, or simply sitting still. The driving

Four legs, spread so no day is a driving day

About 780 kilometres in total, but spread across five days rather than four, which is the difference between a tour and a transfer marathon.

Day 2 — Delhi to Agra, about 233 km, 3 to 3.5 hours The Yamuna Expressway with a 07:00 start rather than the four-day circuit's 06:00, because the afternoon does not have to absorb as much.
Day 3 — Agra to Jaipur via Fatehpur Sikri, about 240 km plus the 37 km stop, 5 to 6 hours with the visit The stop is on the way, not a detour. Two hours at Fatehpur Sikri and a late lunch on the road still lands you in Jaipur before dark.
Day 4 — Jaipur, local No intercity leg at all. Amber in the morning, about 11 km from the walled city, then the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and the bazaars, with perhaps 40 km on the clock all day.
Day 5 — Jaipur to Delhi, about 270 km, 4.5 to 5 hours Leaving mid-morning rather than after lunch, so the arrival beats the Gurugram evening peak and an evening flight is comfortable.

What five days in one vehicle should feel like

Five days is long enough that the car stops being transport and becomes the trip's base camp. The luggage lives in it, the shopping accumulates in it, and by day three the chauffeur knows without asking that the water goes in the door pocket and the camera bag stays on the seat. That is the argument for the executive sedan or the premium MPV over anything smaller: the space is not about the drive, it is about the week.

Extending it

The three places a fifth day most often becomes a sixth or seventh

Ranthambore is the most common extension: about 180 km south-east of Jaipur, two nights, and the best chance of a tiger in northern India. It is a genuine add-on rather than a detour, and the same car and chauffeur carry on.

Udaipur is the second: about 400 km south-west of Jaipur, which turns the Golden Triangle into the front half of the Rajasthan circuit. Jodhpur and Jaisalmer follow the same logic. The third is Rishikesh and Haridwar, about 240 km north of Delhi, for travellers who want the Ganga and the foothills at the end.

What the transport package includes

The 5-day Golden Triangle: frequently asked

Why is five days the recommended length?

Because it is the shortest version that includes Fatehpur Sikri, gives Delhi a full day and puts two nights in Jaipur. Those three things are exactly what the four-day circuit sacrifices, and none of them costs extra driving.

Is Fatehpur Sikri worth the stop?

It is the best-value stop on the circuit. Akbar's abandoned capital is 37 km out of Agra on the road the car is taking to Jaipur anyway, so it costs two hours and no extra distance.

Can we see the Taj Mahal twice?

Yes, and many people do. Day two visits in the late morning and day three offers an optional sunrise return before leaving Agra. Sunrise is the better light and the smaller crowd; a second entry ticket applies.

Do we need a guide at each monument?

You do not need one, but at Fatehpur Sikri and Amber a licensed guide materially improves the visit. We arrange them city by city on request and bill at cost rather than bundling a guide you may not want.

What if our flight lands in the evening on day one?

The desk moves the Delhi sightseeing to the morning of day two and pushes the Agra leg to the afternoon, or simply starts the circuit the following morning. Either way the five charter days are the five days you actually use.

Can this itinerary be run in reverse from Jaipur?
